The second race in the SSE Airtricity Race Series took place last Sunday out in Swords. The Frank Duffy 10 mile is our official club race and for the first time was moved out of the Phoenix Park. While many of our club members were involved in volunteering on the day, there were a handful of people racing.
First lady home was Maria Mellsop in a time of 1:21:09. Well done Maria. Great running also from Marie Norris who finished in 1:24:42. Keith’s marathon plan obviously working well for Marie – that was a four minute improvement over a similar race in July.
Gareth Horgan was the first of our men home in 1:04:42. Great running from Gar. Hope the blisters have cleared up! Not far behind was Sean Ryan in 1:05:32, placing him second in his age category. Well done Sean.
Tony Garvin survived the heat to finish in 1:13:59. Niall Heylin, another of Keith’s marathon protegees, was making his racing debut for the club and finished in an impressive 1:14:10. Niall was followed by Brian Boland in 1:17:07. Maurice Kennelly, running on home turf, finished in 1:28:58. He was followed by Alan Julian in 1:38:06. Well done guys.
Well done to Brid and the rest of the volunteers for what was by all accounts a really well run and enjoyable race.
Further afield, congratulations to Siobhan Carroll who finished in second place in the Longford Half Marathon in a time of 1:31:29. Fantastic running from Siobhan.
Congratulations also to Patrick Coyle who was ninth overall in the Celbridge AC 5k, in a PB-equalling 16:37. Podge was followed by Mark Carroll who finished in 19:43 and Donal Lyons in 20:10. Great running guys.
