New Years Revolution – (2016 Weekly Reports #52)

Happy New Year Civil Service Harriers. Well done to everyone in action, training or racing this week and best wishes to anyone targeting their training schedules and running routines as part of their New Years Resolutions/Revolutions. Persevere… and good things will follow. Please note the training for this week will revert back to our standard training times (also, 2017 subs are now due):


The next race on the BHAA XC Winter League Calendar is the Bank of Ireland XC, in Faughs GAA Club, Tymon Pk. Templeogue on Sat. 07th Jan. There will be separate starts for the ladies 2 mile and mens 4 mile races. Full Info and entries via BHAA Website: https://bhaa.ie/events/


The Dublin Cross Country Masters will take place on Sunday 8th January and we will be declaring teams.  If anyone is 35+ and interested in running (St Anne’s Park, 3k ladies, 6k men) please let Claire, Bernard, Nick or Mairead know.


The Leinster Intermediate & Masters Country will take place on Sunday 15th January. If anyone is interested in running (Dunboyne, 4k ladies, 8k men) please respond to Ashley (Intermediate ladies team) or Neil (Intermediate mens team). If any Masters Athletes are interested in racing Leinster also, speak to Claire, Bernard, Nick or Mairead.

We had another crew of athletes braving the elements on New Years morning for the Liffey Valley A.C. Tom Brennan Memorial 5k race, held in Phoenix Park and incorporating the first race of the year for the Lord Mayors 5 Alive Challenge. In the ladies race we had Andrea Doyle finishing 48th (11th F40), breaking 25mins. Claire-Ann Ferry was in action (27th F45), breaking 30mins. Well done to Andrea and Claire-Ann.


Neil O’Rourke opened up his 2017 account, finishing 3rd in 15:51, well done to Neil. Paul Cowhie was 19th overall, winning his M50 category in 16:56, great running by Paul. Keith Farrell was next man home in 21:28 (23rd M35), breaking 21-and-a-half mins, followed closely by Bren Farrell in 21:34 (18th M40). Paul McEvoy was in action also (41st M50), breaking 26-and-a-half.
