On a perfect morning for racing the BHAA summer racing season commenced with a road race in St Anne’s Pack in Raheny. We had 6 ladies compete in the 2mile race and 16 men and 1 lady compete in the 4mile mens race. First home in the ladies race was Angie McElligott in a fantastic time of 12mins 32sec – Angie is getting faster and faster with every race! Second home for CSH was Brid Ryan in 12mins57sec followed by Marie Norris in 13mins30sec. Well done also to Catherine Boyle, Catriona Wyer, who were making their debuts in a BHAA race and Ollie Fenelan. Angie and Brid were also also on the Dublin Hospitals team which won the ladies team event. In the mens race first home for CSH was Paul Cowhie in 20mins49sec which earned him 5th place in the race and 1st in his category. Next home for CSH was Bobby Bedford in 21mins48sec which also earned him 1st place in his catgory. Third man home for CSH was Mark Lenahan in 24mins37sec. As usual CSH members competed for places throughout the field, Colm Brady and Owen McFeely were separated by only 3sec in times of 26min27sec and 26min30sec respectively and Brian Doyle and Joe Delaney were separated by 2sec in times of 28mins40sec and 28mins42sec – check out the photo on Racepix. Congratulations to Tony Keegan, Brian Doyle and Padraig Gibbons who were 2nd in the D division of the mens team event on the Manufacturing team and to Joe Delaney who was on the Eircom team that was 3rd in the D division. Everyone was pleased with their times with consistent improvements on the times from Dunboyne race the previous week and certainly less sun. A very well organised event was completed with presentations to the winners by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Andrew Montague. Finally it must be mentioned that some members were assisted by strong expressos before the race – not sure if that can be considered as a performance enhancing substance, we will need to consult with Tony for future races!! See you all in the K-Club on 21st Apr for next BHAA race.
