Rock n Roll Madrid, Wexford Half & 10k and Dublin Night Run
By ORLA COX
Forget about London, the real action was Madrid and Wexford as a group of CSH’s finest went on tour for the weekend (and a few stayed in Dublin).
Rock n Roll Half Marathon and 10K Madrid
While the rest of us battled through Storm Hannah, a gang from the club were sunning themselves in Madrid.
First up on the Saturday morning was the 10K race where we had four club members toeing the line. First over the line was Gemma Treacy in a PB time of 43:41, which placed her 26th overall. Great running from Gemma. Maurice Kennelly was next home in 46:34, followed by Emily Ennis in 48:55 and Tom O’Flaherty in 52:43. Great running from the guys on what was by all accounts a tough, hilly course.
The majority of the gang decided to get more miles for their money and go for the half marathon option. First home was Vincent O’Neill in a time of 1:34:38, another PB. And if my Spanish is correct, placed him second in his age category. Fantastic running from Vinny. Next home was Ed Murphy in 1:38:46, showing the effectiveness of the less is more style of training. Ann Foran was first of our ladies home in 1:40:11. Great running considering she just raced a 10 mile last weekend. Fiona Fagan wasn’t far behind in 1:40:40. Well done ladies!
John Breslin was next in 1:44:25, followed by Amanda Treanor who dipped under the 1:45 mark to finish in 1:44:56. Owen McFeely wasn’t far behind in 1:45:22. Next was Paul Pugh (1:46:24), Maria Mellsop (1:48:40), Ken Byrne (1:50:48) and Brian Corr (2:00:06). Great running folks!
Wexford 10k and Half Marathon
From Madrid to the Sunny Southeast….five CSHers hit the N11 to take part in the Wexford half marathon and 10k.
The change in course for the half didn’t faze Keith Farrell who stormed home in a PB time of 1:36:03. Bren Farrell was also put racing, finishing in 1:56:06. Bren was followed by Andrea Doyle who finished 2:22:05. Well done guys!
In the 10k race, Barbara Conway finished in 57:12, followed by Sinead McNamara in 58:15. Great running ladies!
Dublin Night Run
And back to Dublin for the night run and with some great results by the lads. First home with a 7th place finish was Patrick Coyle in a time of 35.51. Next home from Civil Service was Paul O’Neill in 26th place and a time of 37.56. Eamon Prunty also clocked in a great time of 44.03.
